Bristlecone Pine, Great Basin National Park
Bristlecone pines can live for over 5,000 years - longer than anything else on earth. They grow high up in the mountain ranges in the western US, exposed to extreme winds and cold. They die when the wind finally "snow-blasts" off all of their bark and needles. The wood doesn't rot, so even after their death trees remain standing for centuries, like the one in this photo.
